Loklung

Loklung is a village located west of the Hakha border in Senthang District, Chin State, Myanmar. It lies approximately 9 miles from Hakha and is situated about 6,110 meters above sea level. Loklung village was founded in AD 1932 by settlers from Buanlung village, including Pu Ui Kung, Than Dun, Hrang Kual, Hmun Ung, Ruang Kar, Knok Cin, Phun Zam, and Lai Chum.

Before settling, the founders sought permission from the Hakha land authorities to establish the village. The village was named Loklung after a nearby rock called Lungpi. In AD 1951, the villagers moved to a new location known as Loklung Khuathar.

Loklung is located north of Sakta and Zathal villages, with Vanmualthar (Lichia) village to the west. The village is surrounded by several rivers and streams: Nelpava, Uitiva, and Timit rivers to the north, and Khuangtumva and Chorelva streams to the west. To the east lie the cliff ranges of Farzautlang Mountain and the Nuciak Monument Stone Mountains, while the Fingkuaton Mountains (where nine mountain groups meet) and Builung Tlang Mountain lie to the north.

In AD 1961, Pu Zo Mawng became village chief and helped build a school. A government primary school was established in 1966. Under the leadership of Pu Huat Kung in 1976, a private branch middle school was founded. A pharmacy was built in 1997 with government assistance, and in June 1999, the branch middle school expanded further. With support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the village received a water supply and school facilities in 2000. In 2017, a government middle school was established. Early school teachers included Saya Rung Ling (Fungkah) in 1961, Saya Lam Bawi (Phaikhua) in 1962-63, and Saya Lam Bawi and Saya San Thui in 1964-65.

The Baptist Church was built in 1951, with Rev. Sang Ling as its first caretaker. The first person baptized in Loklung was Pu Lian Ceu, and Pu Khua Awr was baptized by Rev. Sang Ling in 1947. Current pastors in Loklung include Rev. Tin Hmung, Rev. Lian Thang, Rev. Biak Hlei Cung, Pastor Par Kip Bor, Pastor Tial Can, Pastor Ral Cung Hmung, Pastor Ngun Thawng, Pastor Dawt Chin Par, and Pastor Sung Can Zing.

The villagers primarily earn their living through farming. Over time, they have diversified to include livestock raising, trading, and shopkeeping. Loklung village has approximately 146 households and about 670 inhabitants.
