Hausen
Hausen is a village located in Senthang District, Hakha Township, Chin State. It is situated 40 miles from Hakha. Hausen village was founded by Pu Kha Lung from Khuapi village in AD 1892. The British placed Hausen village under the rule of Pu Lian Hram, chief of Khuapi village.
Before the present Hausen village, there was an earlier Hausen village that was destroyed by war. That original Hausen was founded by the Ceu Nak and Bokkheng clans from Phaipha village and the Hlawnca clans from Phaizawng village. Fearing attacks from Zokhua, they were accompanied by Pu Tial Hngak, son of Hakha chief Pu Lul Mang (Darkhuah). Van Mual village was later founded from Hausen, and from Van Mual, Buanlung village was established. The current Hausen village was rebuilt by Pu Kha Lung from Khuapi village.
Pu Lian Hnok, son of Bawi Thang, was appointed village chief by the British on February 22, 1926. Pu Tin Khuah, from Hausen village, was imprisoned by the British for fighting against them during the Lairal war (AD 1917-18).
A notable figure from Hausen village is Thiripianchi Pu Lian Thum, who served as a Member of Parliament (MP) representing Senthang province and Chin State for eight years. He was the son of Pu Khen Dun and Pi Ngun Iang. Pu Lian Thum joined the Chin Levy Army after completing the 4th grade and served as a primary assistant teacher for four years in Hausen primary school. He was a delegate to the Chin National Day Conference held on February 20, 1948, and was elected MP representing Hakha Township. In the 1951-52 national election, he won a Pyithu Hluttaw seat and also served as Chairman of the Chin Affairs Council.
Hausen village lies on the northern side of the Matupi Main Road highway. The birthplace and quarry of Lungthu Khupchawn is located about one mile from Hausen village. Neighboring villages include Khupi to the east, Phaipha (A) and Phaizawng to the west, and Phaipha (B) to the north. Surkhua city and Lungtar village are located to the south.
The villagers earn their living through farming and shifting cultivation. Hausen has a middle school and three churches: Baptist Church, Roman Catholic Church, and Ramthar Church. The first pastor was Rev. Hram Phen.
Hausen village has 60 households and approximately 285 inhabitants.
