Lungtar

Lungtar is a village located in the western part of Senthang District, Hakha Township, Chin State. It is situated 65 miles from Hakha and 12 miles from Surkhua city. Lungtar village was founded by Pu Kip Lian from Maukhua village in AD 1640. When the British arrived in AD 1890, Pu Mang Nuai and Pu Khua Thun were the village chiefs of Lungtar.

Maukhua village lies to the south of Lungtar, while Dumva is to the southeast. The Phokva River runs north of the village and is home to many species of fish. To the east, there is Laithlopa Mountain, a popular spot known for its beautiful sightseeing and views. The western side of the village is bordered by Tikir Stream and Tikir Mountain.

Historically, the people of Senthang used to travel through Lungtar and stay there when visiting Daidin village in Gangaw Township. The villagers mainly engage in farming. Over time, they also began to raise and sell tawre (yolk eggs) and cultivate sugarcane, which became important sources of livelihood and occupation.

Lungtar has a middle school providing education up to the 10th grade.

The first missionaries to work in Lungtar were Saya That Rem and Saya Zaling (A) from Sakta village. Later, Rev. Tluang Kung became the senior church pastor. Currently, Rev. Tin Sang serves as the Baptist church pastor.

There are four churches and four denomination in Lungtar village:

  • Baptist Church, Assembly of God Church, Roman Catholic Church and The Church

Lungtar village has 110 households and about 587 inhabitants.
