Zathal
Zathal is a village located in the western part of Senthang District, Hakha township, Chin State. It is situated 23 miles from Hakha. The village was founded in AD 1947 by Pu Hmun Ling, Pu Pa Thiap, and Pu Hram Hmung, who came from Buanlung village. Zathal is located on the land area of Sakta village and was placed under the jurisdiction of Sakta village.
Dinlopa village lies to the south of Zathal, Loklung village to the north, Sakta village to the east, and Buanlung village to the west. A massive and famous rock called Bawi Hram Lungpi is located to the north of Zathal. This rock offers stunning views and is a popular sightseeing spot.
The Bawinu River flows north of Zathal village. It originates from Hakha and the Timit stream, becoming the largest river in Hakha township. The Bawinu River flows southward and joins the Tio River, which then connects to the Kaladan River in southern Rakhine State. The valley of the Bawinu River in Zathal is fertile and well-suited for agriculture. Villagers earn their living through plowing paddy fields, farming, shifting cultivation, animal husbandry, and trading.
In AD 1977, a private primary school was established in the village. A middle school was founded in 2003, followed by a middle branch school in 2019.
There are five churches and denominations in Zathal village: Baptist Church, Assembly of God Church, Roman Catholic Church, Believer Church, and the Church of Jesus Christ. The pastors serving the Baptist Church are Rev. Cung Lian Thawng, Pastor Far Can Sung, and Saya Aung Lin Thun. Saya Lian Zam serves as the priest in the Roman Catholic Church.Zathal village has 91 households and approximately 393 inhabitants.
