Fanthen

Fanthen is a village located in the western part of Lautu District, Thantlang Township, Chin State, Myanmar. It is 74 miles from Hakha City and 48 miles from Thantlang City, at an elevation of about 1,400 meters above sea level.

The village was founded in AD 1902 by Pu Ni Lo, Pu Uvkha, and Pu Van Khun.

Geography

  • Neighboring villages: Hnaring City to the south, Sentung Village to the north, and Tisen Village to the west.

  • Natural features: Sarhmuntlang Mountain in the west and Thanghor River in the western part of the village.

Economy
The people of Fanthen earn their living mainly through farming and shifting cultivation.

Education and Health
A private primary school was established in Fanthen in AD 1958. Over time, it grew into a high school and now offers classes up to Grade 12, attracting many students from surrounding villages. The village also has a Rural Health Clinic.

Religion
There are three church denominations in Fanthen:

  1. Baptist Church – First missionary worker: Rev. Tluang Kung; current pastor: Pastor Dawt Sung (senior full-time pastor)

  2. Assembly of God Church – First missionary worker: Pastor Za Iang; currently without a pastor

  3. Roman Catholic Church – First missionary worker: Pastor Za Bawm; current pastor: Pastor Lian Tin Van

Current Population
Fanthen has 245 households and between 1,200–1,300 inhabitants.
