Lunghau

Lunghau is a village located in the western part of Senthang District, Hakha Township, Chin State, Myanmar. It is situated about 50 miles from Hakha City.

Lunghau was founded around AD 1700 by Pu Lian Kung, Pu Za Kheng, and Pu Tum Cem from Sakta Village. Before they settled in present-day Lunghau, there was an earlier settlement called Nabual in the same area. Nabual was burned down three times, forcing its villagers to leave and establish Vai Lunghau Village, after which they moved to Bungzung Village. Later, Lunghau was founded again.

When the British arrived in 1890, Lunghau had 20 households, and Pu Ra Sum served as the village chief. The name “Lunghau” originates from the village’s defense during the war with the British, when a stone wall was built to surround the village. The Chin words Lung Hau mean “encircled by stones.” Vai Lunghau Village is considered a descendant settlement of Lunghau.
