SOPUM VILLAGE

Sopum is a village located in Vanzang Tlang Block, Thantlang Township, Chin State, Myanmar. It is situated approximately 65 miles from Hakha and 12 miles from Thantlang City. Sopum Village was founded in AD 1830 by Pu Lian Hnin Hlawceu and Pu That Ling Vanngiang.

The village is bordered by four neighboring villages: Hmunthar Village, Arceh Village, and Khuafo Village to the east, and Hmunlipi Village to the west. Sopum is surrounded by several rivers and mountains, including Nien Tlang to the east, Thartlang to the west, and Vuichip Tlang to the north. The Lahva River flows to the east of the village, while the Thingva River lies to the west.

There are two churches serving the village community:

  1. Baptist Church – Senior Pastor: Pastor Cung Chin

  2. Believer Church – Full-time Pastor: Rev. Ngun Kio

Sopum Village has a high school. The villagers primarily earn their livelihood through farming and shifting cultivation. Currently, Sopum Village has 155 households, with an estimated population of about 623.
